April 7, 2017

Dear Parents,

Students did an amazing job this week working on the math section of the PARCC testing. I was so proud of how hard they worked and how focused they were. We will not be PARCC testing next week but will continue with the ELA section after vacation. During regular classroom time, some of us are struggling to finish the Mufaro’s Beautiful Daughters essay. Hopefully that will wrap up today.

Much of our work this week focused on math, science, and social studies. In math, we worked on adding fractions with related denominators with and without the help of tape diagrams and number lines. We also continued to practice renaming improper fractions to mixed numbers. Fact quizzes will resume on Tuesday, April 11th. In science, we concluded the unit on light energy. We will continue next week with heat energy and heat transference.

In social studies, we completed another “jigsaw” activity with the topic of how the Northeast uses the ocean as a resource. A test will be given on this chapter next Thursday, April 13th. A study guide was distributed today. Students have had many questions about their board games. I can’t wait to see the final product. Remember all game boards with directions are due Wednesday, April 12th.

Quarter 3 ended today. Report cards will be distributed on Thursday, April 13th.

Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Karen Friedmann
